The Friends of Holy Trinity raise money for the maintenance, repair, restoration and beautification of Holy Trinity, the Parish Church of Bembridge, and its associated buildings for the benefit of the public. We are an independent organisation and registered charity.
Since it was formed in 1999 the Friends have raised over £350,000 towards many important projects – including
- the complete restoration in 2006 of the historic church organ
- the complete refurbishment of the Cloister in 2013
- replacement of the Church ceiling in 2014
- restoration works to the facing of the tower and roof valleys in 2015
- restoration of the Cloisters garden in 2016
- re-building of the Vestry roof and central heating system in 2016
- waterproofing the outside west wall and new guttering in 2017.
How Do We Raise Funds?
The Friends currently have some 200 members and families who form the backbone to our funding with their subscriptions; but we always need more Friends.
We have an excellent committee that meets regularly and plans and organises our many interesting and varied fund raising activities with the backing of a dedicated team of helpers. On large projects, we also devote much time seeking one off funding support from grant agencies and charities, as well as general appeals and local support.
Over the years, generations of Bembridge people have come to Holy Trinity to worship God, to baptise their children, to marry their sweethearts and for the funerals of their loved ones. The Frinds must look after our Parish Church for future generations as those in the past have done for us. The Church and its associated buildings need continuous attention to keep them in tip top condition, which is expensive and predictable. There are some big projects coming up.
