Welcome
A very warm welcome to Holy Trinity Bembridge’s website
My name is Steve Daughtery and I am the Vicar here. It is great that you have found your way to this page
Our website contains lots of up-to-date information about what we do and how you can find us. Our hope is that you find what you need to engage in our church family and soon get a sense of belonging here
We believe that discovering God’s love changes the way we care for others, changes our respect for the world, changes our attitude towards ourselves and… in fact… changes everything. God’s Spirit and God’s Word help us to lead lives that shine with God’s love in a world with so much need
We welcome everyone at Holy Trinity Bembridge, regardless of race, sexuality, gender or background. We want to help people discover a belief that grows a real and vital living relationship with God. We want to support people becoming more and more like Jesus – whilst remembering that we are all still “works-in-progress”… especially the Vicar!
So please do come and join us

Meet the Team
Holy Trinity Bembridge is blessed with a fantastic team of volunteers serving in all areas of church life. Our Parochial Church Council (PCC) acts as the leadership team, working collaboratively with the Vicar, to progress the vision and mission of our church
Steve Daughtery
Vicar
Steve has a passion for preaching and seeing people develop their relationship with Jesus. Before he turned his collar the wrong way round(!) he worked as Director of Global Information Technology in a large Investment Bank in the City. He has been in ordained ministry for 30 years. In his previous role he was the Rector of Trinity Church in Lewes – a large and thriving multi-generational church. Steve moved to Bembridge with his wife Amanda in March 2021. They have 5 grown-up children scattered across the south-coast. Steve is also the Area Dean of the Isle of Wight, representing the needs of the church to the Bishop and assisting the Bishop in achieving the goals of the Diocese
Heath Monaghan
Curate
Heath has a passion for Christian mission and social transformation, he loves to see people thriving into their God given potential. He has always worked in the voluntary sector and moved to the Island ten years ago with his wife Jules and their girls. They founded together a much-loved charity ‘Aspire Ryde’ from a huge old redundant church building to grow a vast range of missional and social action projects and brought the building back to and filled with life. He is also the Islands first ordained pioneer minister and spends time developing new worshipping communities
Clare King
Reader
When you have a busy life, learning how to listen, so that you can hear God’s call is not always easy. However, in 2016, Clare finally responded to God’s calling to be a Reader in church. She is licensed to Holy Trinity Bembridge and The Bay CE School, where she is Head of Sciences. She is passionate about the gentleness of faith by action. Working with teenagers every day and with her husband Jim, two children and three dogs, Clare has learnt to introduce Jesus to others, by acts of kindness, tolerance, patience and love

Vision & Values
VISION
Our Vision is to be a deeper, vibrant and growing community in Christ. Our deepest desire is to strengthen our relationship with God and to be firmly rooted in his love and the life of his Spirit
We believe that as our relationship with God grows, so the fruit of that will develop in us, in our church and in our community. The fruit of the Spirit of God is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These qualities must have a practical outworking in our community life so that we become a blessing for our village and for our world
If we take these things seriously, they will transform the way we live and the way we experience church. Our hope is to grow in God’s love with others joining us
- “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches” Matthew 13:31-32
- Jesus said: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit” John 15:5
VALUES
Our Purpose is to whole-heartedly love God, our world and each other
To be a disciple of Jesus is to seek to become more like him. He has called us to be people who love whole-heartedly and this impacts our whole life. To love whole-heartedly is to love up, out, in and down – to love God, to love others, to love our community and to love our world
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” Matthew 22:36-40
We believe that God offers life-transforming good news. To know God and his love, purpose and future for our lives, is the reason we are made. To want to keep this to ourselves seems not only odd, but irreconcilably selfish. Therefore, part of who we are, is to be a people who want to reach out with God’s love to others, that they may know God too. Jesus has called us to be, and to invite others to be, his disciples
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19
Our beliefs reflect the nature of God’s Trinity
We believe that God speaks – the Word of the Father
We believe that God spoke the world into being, that he has spoken to us by sending Jesus, and that he still speaks today through the pages of the Bible. While we can know some things about God through creation, community and experiences, God primarily reveals his character, story and love for us through his word
We study the Bible because we want to hear God speak to us and change us
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”. 2 Timothy 3:16
We believe that God loves – the Cross of Jesus
The central event in the whole of history is the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. We can know God only because God, in Jesus, came to bring us into a relationship with himself. On the cross, Jesus pays the price for the consequences of our rejection of God, and offers us a new start. The cross is our motivation for living out our faith. As we consider God’s incredible sacrifice for us in Jesus, so we respond by seeking to live as Jesus lived, and love as he loves
“God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:8
We believe that God transforms – lives empowered by the Spirit
Jesus died on Good Friday. On Easter Sunday he was raised to life by the Holy Spirit. This same Spirit is given to us today to transform our lives and to be our strength, guide and constant companion
The Christian life is joining in with what God is doing within us and in the world. It is impossible to live life to the full without reliance upon God the Holy Spirit
“The Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you” Romans 8:11
