Why grace, in a vacancy?
Paul wrote Philippians to a church he loved but could not be with. He urged them to live well “whether I come and see you, or else be absent” (1:27).
That is our story this year. While we wait for a new vicar, Philippians 2 reminds us that a church is not held together by its leader, but by Christ, the gift God gave us at Christmas.
One mind (2:1–4): Grace makes us look to the interests of others, not just our own.
The gift himself (2:5–11): Christ came down to serve. Grace is God giving first.
God at work (2:12–13): It is God who works in us, with or without a vicar in post.
Shining lights (2:15): A church that shines in Bembridge as we wait.
